Hi guys,

If anyone of you haven't yet tried any prescription medicine for your illness, i'd just like to recommend Amitriptyline, if you can get your GP to prescribe it for you. I've been ill since the end of February now - and still haven't recovered 100%, and don't expect to in the near future. However, i am MUCH better than i was and the big turning point for me was a course of Amitriptyline. I found that i wasn't sleeping properly (waking every few hours, very vivid dreams which often resulted in me waking up very tense with a racing heart) and this only made me even more tired the next day, and sort of contributed to a "cumulative" fatigue. Now, i was told that the logic behind using Amitriptyline is that it produces more serotonin in the brain - i honestly can't tell if this has happened, but what i noticed immediately (from the 2nd night) was that i started to sleep so much better, and actually started waking up feeling refreshed again. Ever since then i've gone from strength to strength, and able to do more and more. I'm now even able to get back to work full time and the way things were progressing, i can't imagine i'd be where i am now without these drugs.

I'm still on the Amitriptyline (20mg a night) and i still get tired easily and get mild headaches/swollen throat/muscle pains if i'm having a stressful day - but i seem to be able to get a good night's sleep and bounce back very quickly afterwards now, whereas before it would set me back for at least 2 weeks.

Anyway, i'd recommend it to anybody who hasn't tried it yet. I very much doubt it'll cure you (and if anybody thinks there is an overnight cure for this ****ty illness then i think you're very naive), but i've found it makes it so much more manageable, and may at least get you back on your feet and let you get on with your life again.
