    I've just posted a longer message which mentioned how amazing I've felt since I started taking magnesium citrate. I can really recommend a great book to you all - "The Magnesium Miracle". Look it up on amazon :-) There's a whole chapter devoted to CFS and how magnesium is such a key link to diagnosis and cure. I really can't recommend this book enough. Once you read it you'll be telling everyone to supplement with Magnesium!!

    Hi Metalpetal, I've been looking at Magnesium Citrate but I was wondering how long after you started taking it did you notice an improvement? It's pretty expensive, and I don't want to be wasting money on something that might not work for me. Holland and Barrett sell 100 tablets for about £7, but suggest that you take 3 a day. In your experience, would a month be long enough to feel the effects or does it take a bit longer?

    wow, sounds worth a try Petal, thanks.

    Jimmy - 7.00 for one month is only about 22p per day. Im sure many of us were spending much more than that on pointless things before we were ill. But with most things like this its probably worth taking one a day to start and slowly building it up, so as not to shock the body. What dosage does it suggest in the book Petal?

    Ok, firstly I don't take tablet form. When i did research the best form seemed to be powdered.     You mix a teaspoon with hot water and it all fizzes up to activate the formula. You then top up with cool water and drink. Tastes quite pleasant! It's absorbed much quicker than a tablet I assume. The book recommends around 3 to 4.5 mg of elemental magnesium per lb of body weight per day. That's in line with the recommended dosage on the tub off Magnesium Supreme. It lasts ages by the way. I take half the dose first thing on empty stomach and the other just before I go to bed. Many people (including me!) find it helps them sleep.

    I would say I noticed a difference within 24-48 hours. It really was that fast. If I have time later I'll try and type the CFS chapter of the book for you all. Or at least the particularly interesting parts!!

    My good friends, I seem to find myself in the role of "buzz kill" more than I like. <img src="images/smilies/upset.gif" border=0 />

    Be aware, Magnesium Citrate (however you get there) is a powerful laxative, further has a whole list precautions that could make it dangerous for some people.

    As a laxative... it can have bad long-term use effects (like any laxative).

    The way it works as a laxative... involves saline, osmosis & water ... can be dangerous for people with kidney issues (for example), or even undiagnosed conditions. Definitely keep you doctor in the loop... please! <img src="images/smilies/wink.gif" border=0 />

    That's a good point - but it is very easy to 'identify' when you've taken a bit too much :-) At first I did have to play wih my dosage for two or three days until I got it just right. The reason it has a laxative effect is because the body is getting rid of the magnesium it doesn't need. But good advice re anyone with kidney problems etc - although I would hope anyone with kidney or liver etc problems would know to check before taking *anything* new.

    it is a mild laxative but i have been taking it for 19 days and only experienced the laxative effect once. It hasn't made a big difference though, what inpact did it have on you metalpetal?
    I am giving it a month and then moving on to another supplement dribose anyone tried that?

    I've already thanked metalpetal on one of his other threads, and I thought I'd thank him again. As well as all of you who have added comments to this thread. I'd also like to reiterate what No 2 said, because you do have to be careful about the dosage.

    Magnesium and zinc work for me but too much can be bad for you
