i went to a private doctor (in the USA, where I'm originally from) who is trained as a gynocologist, but recommended by my mother because of her expertise in hormone levels; she also is open to homeopathy and herbal remedies, which was great.
She had my adrenal hormones tested, and we found that though they are in the "normal" range, they are on the very low side and probably why I find it so hard to wake up and have low energy throughout the day. My nutritionist has given me some herbs to help support my adrenals now that we know what they are doing.
Beat Stress and Fatigue by Patrick Holford has a great section on hormone levels, which makes it easy to understand. Maybe seeing an endocrinologist would be good - though I haven't tackled this thru the NHS b/c of frustration. Definitely worth pursuing tho!
I agree strongly with Melanie - I have been meaning to write in on the forum for awhile. I have had this for 11 months, and the past 4 or 5 have been doing so much better, working part time and feeling like my old self again (but also learned how to pace myself and made some major lifestyle changes) - I really credit my recovery to seeing a nutritionist as well. She really helped me focus on my diet and what I am putting in to my body tohelp it start working again. I cannot recommend seeing a nutritionist enough if you have PVF/CFS!
Hi,
I suspect my adrenals are a problem for me too. Just a hunch but a reasonable one considering my past. What does anyone suggest i take for boosting them? any ideas?
Cheers,
Simon
