I currently have no disgnosis as such, just been told I'm recovering from a virus, now identified as Respiratory Syncytial Virus (RSV). So far I've suffered 3-months of swollen glands, sore throat, achy joints, headaches, fatigue, was starting to feel down but managed to get back to work part-time which helped - although leaves me exhausted.

Latest blood test results as well as identifying RSV also showed I'd previously had glandular fever (EBV) which was news to me. I do recall, & confirmed with my mum, that when I was about 8 I had a bad period of recurrent tonsilitis & was treated on & off for weeks with antibiotics, but kept being sent to school except on my worst days. The doctor at the time considered glandular fever but didn't test as I was thought too young for glandular fever. Sometime within the year prior to that I'd also had an illness that docs struggled to identify but blood tests revealed as measles, I had no rash that time & later got measles again but with normal rash. Also in that period between about 8 & 10 years old I had chicken pox, German measles, several rounds of tonsilitis that did respond to antibiotics & my tonsils & adenoids removed. I'm wondering if current illness could have anything to do with the assault on my immune system 30 years ago? I wonder this in part because my symptoms are similar to those I remember from tonsilitis.

Any thoughts on this welcome (although if you think I'm completely barking tell me gently <img src="images/smilies/wink.gif" border=0 /> ). I'm also wondering if it is worth asking for access to my medical records from that time, so I can get a little more understanding of when things happened, chilhood memory especially when running a temperature of 105 gets a little muddled. What do people think?

    Thanks for reading my waffle,
    Carol.

Hi Carol, whilst I can't comment on the period of time since you may have had the Epstein Barr virus and current symptoms, I thought I should let you know I was diagnosed with GF in April 2011 following a few weeks of high temperature, night sweats and typical viral symptoms. Following the first weeks my symptoms have been identical to yours (sore glands in neck, headaches, 'fuzzyness', fatigue, and possibly depression from being off work). I'm unsure if I have failed to get over GF or if I have developed PVF as my symptoms have been constant with no change other than a reduction in fatigue after 6 months (I had to sleep 2hrs every afternoon prior to that). I know that my symptoms are directly related to having had/still having glandular fever, and that you could perhaps have had a relapse. Hope that helps a little and good luck beating it!
