I am a 65 year old female and was fine until I had a food poisoning bacteria at the beginning of November called campylobacter, it took me a few months to start feeling like eating properly and I have been backwards and forwards to the doctors for months, I am now even on beta blockers as he thinks it could be anxiety as well, the reason I am asking about PVF is because I am fine in the morning and get on with what I have to do, about mid day I suddenly feel exhausted, almost like a switch has been put on, my back aches, arms feel like they have weights on them and it is an effort to walk upstairs or do anything but I don't feel like sleeping it is just my body that can't seem to carry on, has any one else experienced this, would be glad of your suggestions.

Thought I'd try and answer this as you haven't had any replies.
But I think food poisoning is bacteria rather than a virus, so I'd say you couldn't get post viral fatigue from it, although knowing how unpredictable CFS is, I wouldn't be too sure!

    Hmmm.

    Hi CMC

    Welcome to the forum

There are no actual known causes of CFS (PVFS/ME). People have been diagnosed after viral infections, however, there are some main factors thought to increase your chances of succombing to the illness which include childhood trauma, mental & emotional stress, viral infection or anything that weakens the immune system, depression, or a recent traumatic event such as bereavement, divorce or redundancy. It has also recently come to light that many people have a genetic disposition to the illness (so my consultant told me).

Anything that takes a toll on our bodies can take a while to get over so it could well be fatigue as a result of being so ill with food poisoning. No harm in speaking to your GP about PVF and as you have so many similar symptoms of PVF then the same self management principles should be followed to help you recover. Try to pace your activities (dressing/housework/socialising/watching tv etc) with rests in between and try some form of relaxation (diaphramatic breathing/guided relaxation/meditation) which can help. Hope this helps
