Hi Newbie, welcome to the forum
In answer to your question: Exercise?? What's that..i've forgotten! I did swim a few lengths about a year ago which attributed to a crash! Activity is a different thing as cleaning my teeth is an activity lol. I manage to 'potter', some days I even get out of my pj's and get dressed (i'm proud of those occasions!). Everyone's different though and in different 'stages' of M.E. from acute to recovery!

I won't let ME/CFS and Fibromyalgia rule my life, I'll just adjust it accordingly!
Erm, none, I did try, didn't go so well, my body protested, which is fine (for now), I'm able to walk round the house, go food shopping, walk a little bit round uni, but generally I just stay at home as my body seems to function better resting (less symptoms).
However when I get well I plan on getting back into shape, not gained weight just lost tone...
Tally
building it up slowly over time:
1-4 months : resting mostly, 5-10 minute walks, minimum chores.
5-8 months: dabbled in situps / wall push ups to keep tone and limber-ness(?)(about once a week/10 min session).
9 months - to present: same i guess. i dont feel compelled to do a crazy work out like i used to. occasional run around wit the pet. plus i got an office job which is energy consuming enough.
so jus go at your own pace, it takes a while to strike a balance, but Always set a minimum benchmark on what you can acheive. and work up from there.
It really depends how long into recovery you are. Don't try and push yourself too hard until you're feeling much much better.
Early on, nothing- I couldn't even wash dishes. Walking anywhere was too much at first and I had to go lie down and sleep. Some days sitting up was too much!
I'm a year and a half on now and I am starting to try and exercise again. I've been able to do a 40 minute walking round trip to the supermarket for months. And I've been doing 15m of gentle stretching / really basic yoga for a long time now. Last month I did half an hour's gentle ice skating per week. At the moment I'm cautiously managing 10 minutes skipping (30 ropes, 30 seconds rest) a day. Wow! But I wouldn't have tried this earlier.
Hi
Everybody like to take exercise but now in the present era it is difficult to get the time from the daily routine hours,so the best way to keep the health better to adopt this for best results.
bought myself some fancy expensive runners (trainers) just before i got ill 2 nd half yrs ago.had planned to get really fit...planned on running a full marathon! now they r gathering dust.i do miss all the exercise.had to turn radio off ths morn as there was an athlete on speaking about training.presently im just so excited if my legs nd arms dont hurt when i walk! am back at work nd feel im using enugh energy doing that...walking up the stairs...walking round supermarketetc so deliberatly cut any extra exercise as feel im doing what i can..my advise wud b to do pace nd dont b so eagr t get bck t exercise as thats how i ve relapsed in past...take care, marion![]()
Hi Marion
I know how you feel I had to do the same thing during sports relief. Its not that I begrudge the their health and fitness its just that it reminds my of how things used to be.
I could have run a mile in no time and not even raised my heart rate or breathing. Now it takes ages and I'm Knackered by the end, if I can manage it at all.
Kev
I'm 3 months in and can't do any exercise. I have recently started walking up the garden. I have a long way to go to get anywhere near where I was.
Kevin - a mile run is awesome. That shows great progress, even if it is slower than you'd like.
Hi LouLou
Thanks, every little victory counts.
It great to hear from you and I'm really glad you're feeling better than before. I hope you've been able to enjoy the Easter hols. It will be a good waypoint for you. Next Easter, you (we can all) look back and see the progress you've made.
I had a bit of a relapse, so I've not been out for a while, but I think I'm back to the previous level.
Happy Easter
